Neighbours Oppose of Mansion Conversion
It’s up to the City of Chandler, Arizona to decide whether or not to allow the owners of a sprawling mansion to convert it into a wedding reception center. The estate is 10 acres and includes a 1.5 acre lake with dock, boat house as well as a guest house, gardener’s house and butlers home above the garage. The neighbours surrounding the home are fighting the possibility of the change but the owners don’t want to live there anymore. Paula Weber, who owns a home next door to the mansion, tells ABC15 she and others object to the owners’ plan to convert the property into a bed and breakfast, wedding reception center and bistro. ”We never envisioned the property would be turned into something like this,” said Weber. ”We are adamantly opposed to this. It will bring all our property values down.”
Surrounding neighbours fear that the transition into a wedding reception center will cause unwanted noise & traffic. Many would prefer to see a developer raze the property and split it into several smaller lots for homes. To make the changes, owner Nick Goodman needs the City of Chandler to issue him a use permit. If Goodman doesn’t get the approval he’ll be unable to continue maintenance on the property, potentially allowing it to fall into disrepair. Still, neighbours say ‘no.’ ”This is right in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, not very attractive to us,” said neighbour Craig Brown. The use permit hearing is scheduled for Wednesday night at 5:30 before the Chandler Planning and Zoning Commission. The home was previously listed at $12 million.
